Canadian 1-Star Ambassador Jodie Gompf started her first PROJECT 10™ Challenge shortly after giving birth to her third child. She completed three Challenges in nine months. We asked her to share her Challenge journey and victories with us.
Vi: What was your main reason for accepting The Challenge?
Jodie Gompf: I had two months left before I was due to return to work from my maternity leave, and I just couldn’t fit into my work clothes any more. I was totally miserable. I started skipping breakfast even though I knew that was one of the worst things to do. Unable to shed the baby weight, I returned to work still skipping breakfast, but I would be so hungry come coffee break that I would end up making poor food choices. I knew I needed help and a serious change.
Vi: What lifestyle changes did you make after starting The Challenge?
JG: Very simple! I started eating breakfast—meaning I have a Vi-Shape® Shake every morning and lost all of my baby weight with no exercise, using the Transformation Kit. Of course, I run after my kids, so I’m not exactly a couch potato! I finally joined a gym in February 2014 to start building muscle.
My husband Trevor is my biggest supporter and he has also lost 30 lbs. on The Challenge. I now eat much healthier foods but the joke is, I now eat way more now than I used to.
Vi: What’s it like to be on The Challenge as a mother with young children?
JG: We actually have five children in our house, three little boys ages 5, 4 and 1, a 17-year-old stepson, and a 15-year-old niece. We also live on a bison farm, which makes for a lot of exercise!
We’ve all incorporated The Challenge into our lifestyle. We do The Challenge as a team, cheering each other on.
Vi: What is your recipe for success?
JG: I worked hard to focus on the positive. I always had my goal in mind, but tried to be realistic about it, too. That’s why I love PROJECT 10™—it‘s so great to focus on 10 lbs. at a time… instead of the 35 lbs. I ended up losing. If I had a bad day, I wouldn’t beat myself up about it. I just started again fresh the next day to get back on track. I focused on my measurements, too. Inches seemed to melt away even before the scale really started to move!
Being able to fit into my boots without losing circulation in my calves, or resizing my wedding ring, were huge victories that helped to keep me going.
Vi: What advice do you have for someone just starting on The Challenge?
JG: Make the changes for yourself first, even though you may have other ‘Whys.’ Try to be realistic about your expectations—and don’t use the word diet! Just start making healthier choices and they will become a part of your everyday life. The best part is, you won’t feel that you are depriving yourself. I mean, I never thought I would look and feel this good!
PROJECT 10™ Challenge goals can be (or include) weight loss, building lean muscle or improving energy and endurance. Every participant should consider his or her personal circumstances and create goals that are both reasonable and achievable. Vi discourages rapid and extreme weight loss, which can actually be unhealthy and emphasizes that safe and sustainable weight loss is never achieved without exercise and sensible eating. Persons with preexisting medical conditions should consult a healthcare professional before embarking on any fitness, health or weight-loss program.
